The first winter workshop with Miroslav Smatana (Technical University of Košice) on Machine Learning brought a lot of ideas on how to bring added value to our customers.

Big Data is perceived as a relatively modern concept; however, it is often confused with the concept of Data Mining, which has been known in the academic and mega-corporate world for decades. With the arrival of the Cloud we can see changes in the frequency of the use of these words. This time data corresponds to the increased interest in Cloud services in the segments outside corporation.

Therefore, the modern big data "mining" is not as new as it may seem. Cloud technology makes this world accessible to the public. Companies are surrounded by data that they have been collecting for years and it is about time to learn something from this data!

So, where the Cloud brought us an almost infinite capacity and performance of Big Data management, Machine Learning is a tool that can tell us something about this data.

For example, labelling of emails as (non)Spam is possible (human interaction), it will help categorise data and the computer will, based on these groups, derive the rules itself and will be able to label every new mail (non) Spam.

Many CRM gurus know tricks how to learn something about the customers from the existing data. However, Machine Learning can abstract these rules itself. We no longer have to understand the data. This is another use of Machine Learning. An example may include an analysis of failed loans. Machine Learning can abstract rules that escape us.
